By Kristina Wessel The guiding principle of inclusion inherent in the UN Disability Rights Convention has led to the medical model of disability, which understands disability as a deficit, being replaced by the human rights model, which understands disability as an individual need. This terminological reorientation is also of particular relevance for care in hospitals. Care needs are to be linked to individual diversity characteristics. These must be taken into account when caring for people in the sense of “constructively dealing with diversity”. Increasing heterogeneity in our society requires greater differentiation in caregiving. This differentiation is the prerequisite for participation justice and equal opportunities. Obstacles and challenges on the way to inclusion are addressed in the work. Strategies, in particular diversity management and care-related conditions for success, are specified. The findings of the work are used to create a guide. With the guidelines, the hospital and the nursing staff are provided with a checklist that helps to identify existing inclusive structures and concepts and, based on this, to further expand existing structures and concepts "step-by-step".
